AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages), Google’s brave new frontier

So what is AMP? AMP is  a new open source initiative which aims to dramatically improve the performance of the mobile web.

Google’s statement is “We want webpages with rich content like video, animations and graphics to work alongside smart ads, and to load instantaneously. We also want the same code to work across multiple platforms and devices so that content can appear everywhere in an instant—no matter what type of phone, tablet or mobile device you’re using.”

Who is using it and how do I use AMP?

Twitter,Pinterest, WordPress.com, Chartbeat, Parse.ly, Adobe Analytics and LinkedIn are among the first group of technology partners planning to integrate AMP HTML pages.

If you are using WordPress, you can start doing so using their AMP plugin. Look for this plugin.

Why should i use AMP?

So how does this helps? I mentioned before that every time a webpage takes too long to load, users will just skip your site—and the opportunity to earn revenue through advertising or subscriptions will be loss. That’s because advertisers on these websites have a hard time getting consumers to pay attention to their ads when the pages load so slowly that people abandon them entirely.

More examples

The best example can be seen by the demo created by Google over here.

So gain an edge just by starting to use it now. In fact this post is posted using AMP standards. Join the initiative for a faster and better internet.
